God is a function
First of all let me make this statement: I know nothing, not even the belief I have! I’m just playing with thoughts, which is one of my favorite games. I don’t want to offend or indoctrinate anyone, I’m just looking for wisdom.
The subtitle of this page is “God is a function”, which is one of my most powerful mantras as I write this (2010). This sentence imply that God is something like a mathematical formula in a immaterial World, an equivalent to a gearbox in a material world. I don’t know whether it will someday be possible or not to define God with mathematical functions, with «hard» principles. For today I have to stick with «soft» ones, which never will be provable.
How do I come to this heretical conclusion, that God is not a person – and surely no man – but more a principle? Think of bowing an iron sheet with sand on it, were your actions and thoughts are the bow, the iron sheet your person and the resulting sand patterns your «karma»…
My first basic thought is that in history many wise men and women tried so describe experiences they could not describe in the language or knowledge they had at one’s hand in their time. All of them had to use analogies, metaphors, paradoxes or philosophy to express what they experienced and felt. Right here on the first basic level comes my first assumption: That most of the wise brought up their best selfless intention they could to do the best for mankind – at least in the beginning.
Since we are already speculating – the good in man – we know we can not trust anything. To be always aware of this, we need this most important mantra:
The only truth is information – the content of information is untruth.
Information is real, but all that it implies is relative! We need a pretty good tactic to get beyond this blind alley! My favorite is to draft different truths on films, put them over each other on a light table. This gets me some important matches but a dangerous blur too, and I really need a second mantra to always be aware of that:
If I’m as intelligent as I think I’m clever, I’m still plenty stupid enough.
With this two mantras as sheet anchor – and I believe they’re not to bad – I take the risk to go on with the more interesting stuff. To me evolutions of systems that is, systems like the universe, life, intelligence, religions, science, and what we understand as God. I’m not sure whether the system God is a constant like mathematics or whether is is evolving too. But I’m sure that
Consciousness is a trick of evolution. Intelligence is a trick of evolution. Awareness is a trick to survive evolution.
Intelligence may give us, via science, very good arguments, which behaviors will lead in a more or less completely self destruction – only awareness will help to overcome the instincts that lead us to such behavior. This bio-software, our biological heritage, tells us to spread and to master enemies, what we now did in the context in the system life. The system science reveal what happens at this point in evolution: Either birthrate is low enough to reach a stable population, or a constantly species internal competition stabilizes population, or overpopulation destabilizes the environment what kills the species sooner or later.
Technology may stabilize the parameters in some way, but without mastering our biological heritage – in my view – not in an evolutionary long term. Technology that manipulates or releases energy on atomic level is risky even in combination with highest responsibility, in combination with bio-software it’s not risky, it’s deadly. What can happen will happen. When our sun dies in six billion years, life is 8.5 billion years old. Enough time for deadly mistakes if you look at the past 100 years! That would be sad, self-awareness and intelligence should be able to survive, isn’t it?
Knowledge is illusion. Wisdom is illusion. Truth is illusion.
Now, where is the function of God? Awareness leads us to mysticism, which is not esotericism, the capitalistic added value of mysticism.
That’s it for now, more to come…
